Chrysoperla mediterranea

This typically dark-green, conifer-associated species ranges across southern to central Europe and across the north African Mediterranean coast.  Unlike most other members of the carnea species-group, C. mediterranea retains its dark green coloration during winter diapause.  Shown below is one “shortest repeated unit” or SRU, the unit of exchange by partners during a courtship and mating duet.  In this case, the SRU consists of many short, closely-spaced volleys of abdominal vibration.
